Tyson's Pimmit Library

Tyson’s Pimmit Library

Falls Church, VA

The original library was outdated and no longer met the community’s needs nor the County’s standards. The design team completely reconfigured and transformed the dated building into a state-of-the-art facility that fully supports the diverse programmatic and technology requirements of a modern day community centric library. The project is LEED Silver Certified.

One of the key features of the original building is the banding of glass block clerestory that brought nice light into the main stack area but created significant glare and scale issues and had dated look and feel. The budget did not allow for replacement of the glazing so the design team developed a concept that incorporated a series of suspended translucent sail shades and dramatic pendant lights that reduce glare and enhance the feeling and look in the space while preserving the glass block.
