Jim Ritter, faia

PRINCIPAL EMERITUS

Jim is the founding principal of the firm and has over 45 years of experience as an award-winning architect, academic, and leader in the profession. His passion for design excellence has netted the firm over design 50 awards from the AIA and other organizations as well as the AIA T. Fitzgibbon Firm Award, the highest award given to a firm by the VA state AIA.   He was elevated to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in 1991 on the basis of design accomplishments and was awarded the William C. Noland Medal which is the highest honor bestowed by the Virginia Society of AIA to a member architect.  Jim was an adjunct professor in the Virginia Tech School of Architecture (WAAC) for 30+ years and a guest critic and lecturer at many other universities. 

Jim remains an inspiration and mentor to the staff. In his free time you can find him sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, playing his cornet or piano at a local jazz gig, or exploring his favorite city, Paris!
